Maniacal Mondays: The John Butler Trio

ButlerTrio
Some of you may remember The John Butler Trio from when they were featured on the very first Maniacal Mondays post, way back last month.  Judging by the feedback from many of you, Butler was an artist you hadn’t heard of until then but quickly fell in love with.  Those of you already familiar with his work kind of stood off to the side asking the uninitiated, “What took you so long?”

So why, you might be wondering, are we showcasing another Trio highlight?  Because you asked-no, demanded it. Fortunately for all of us, Butler is all about accessibility and connectivity with his audience.  If you’re really jones-ing for a fix a simple Google of his name will bring back thousands of leads for live footage, outtakes, and alternate versions of album tracks.  This time around we’ve decided to show off a live performance of ‘Good Excuse’ from the Grand National album.  You’ll notice some different players in this clip as well-the Trio has evolved on Butler’s newest album, April Uprising, to include drummer Nicky Bomba and bassist Byron Luiters.  Like many Butler fans, I was disappointed to hear that members Michael Barker and Shannon Birchall were no longer part of the group, but after hearing what Bomba and Luiters bring to the kitchen you can understand Butler’s reasoning for switching up the recipe a bit.

Have fun with this one, and make to sure to sing along with Bomba (sounds like a good name for a kid’s show…) during his solo.  Don’t worry if the person in the cubicle next to you thinks you’re nuts, just forward them this post and belt out a few boom-chaka-chaka-booms together.
